Point Defiance Zoo: our day in pictures.

we went to the zoo today, and contrary to what the forecast was calling for (50 degrees and rainy) it was a beautiful day. whew. thank goodness i don't put too much stock into what the meteorologist says. we were prepared for the worst though, hence the umbrella-toting children:

this was the welcome wagon; he was outside the entrance to the zoo and the first critter we saw. he fanned out his feathers right in front us.

when i was tucking katie in tonight, i asked her what her favorite parts were, and these were her answers:

Photobucket
"the camel ride...."

Photobucket
"the tiger 'rawring'...." (trust me he was "rawring", just not in this pic)

Photobucket
"and the miracle round." that last one made me smile :)

i think that MY favorites were probably these guys:

Photobucket

Photobucket
not sure what this last guy was doing LOL....hoping not some sort of nazi salute; maybe he just knows the answer to the question.

oh, and these guys:

Photobucket

Photobucket
kiddos fascinated by meerkats.

Photobucket
watching the otters. they were so cute i wanted to squeeze their fuzzy lil' cheeks and bring one home to live in my bathtub.

Photobucket
frog-watching with gabs.

Photobucket
watching the walruses. hmmmm, noticing a pattern here; i got an awful lot of pictures of my kids backs. i'll have to work on that next time LOL

Photobucket
just for you heidi! they are spiders! in a spiderweb! :D

Photobucket
katie climbing on a sculpture. i think she was trying to climb on the "dad's" shoulders.

Photobucket
i'm glad i snapped this shot before the "miracle round" started moving....cause sam started screaming when the lion started going up and down and the girl had to stop the ride so i could go get him. ha.

Clear Creek Trail.

in an effort to keep my kids busy during spring break (on a limited budget) we hiked the clear creek trail today. it was a nice day out for a hike (though i use "nice" loosely, mainly, it was not pouring rain and the sun *did* peek out several times). we hiked a large portion of it, from ridgetop to trigger. i was surprised katie's legs held out for the whole thing, though towards the end she was cajoled into speeding up with the promise of a chocolate bunny when we got home.

also, my husband thinks he is sooooo funny. puh-leaaase tell me that mine is not the only husband that is this obnoxious. while i was *trying* to take a poop in peace and quiet yesterday, he was busy harassing me and sending me e-mails about said poop. here is what was in my inbox yesterday:

Another smelly pooping incident by Michele Nusz occurred on March 23, 2010 at 7:05 P.M.
This smelly poop took place in the kids bathroom because Michele knew before she took it just how badly it would stink.
The poop was so stinky that Michele stank herself out of the kids bathroom and moved into the master bathroom for the 2nd half.
Michele tried to pretend that the stink was not the reason and that she had just not finished pooping.
This was not true because the 1st poop did stink and now she was stinking up the 2nd bathroom by 07:11 P.M.
Following the 2nd poop Michele still tried to pretend that it did not stink and denied all stinky smells
But in the end, both poops stunk equally one could deny it.

Prior to this, the last smelly poop occurred on:
Thursday, November 12th at 06:14 pm Michele pooped such a smelly poop that it stank from the bathroom to the kitchen table.
She tried to change the subject several times.
She tried to place blame on the diaper bag.
She tried to make me feel bad for walking in.
But in the end it was her smelly poop that stank up the downstairs.

Prior to this, the last smelly poop occurred on:
Personal Log 07/14/2008

Contrary to Michele's belief, her shit does in-fact stink as observed at 09:29 PM on the 14th day of July, 2008. The smell was horrendous and required emergency ventilating the bathroom.

upcycled dickie's shirt.

austin set out a pile of clothes he'd outgrown earlier this evening, and this shirt was among them. it was a fave of mine. i decided to make it "sam-sized".

Photobucket

so i did this to it:
Photobucket

and made this!
Photobucket

i stuck it on him and realized it was a lil' long and looked more like a nightshirt.
Photobucket

so i ended up cutting a bit more off of the bottom and hemming again....
Photobucket

it is one of my first ventures into sewing knits, and good practice for me. it was *really* easy because i used the existing neckline/sleeve cuffs. the only thing i had to finish was the bottom hem (that needs a little more practice. i'm not fond of how puckered it turned out looking.) i'm now looking forward to scavenging the thrift stores for cool men's t-shirts that i can remake for my lil' guy!

st. paddy's.

hope you all have a great st. patrick's day!

please excuse the huge, un-natural smile. and the fact that she's probably blinding you with her lip gloss.
Photobucket

i don't know why she has such a pained expression here....she really did like the green pancakes and milk.
Photobucket

the littlest leprechaun.
Photobucket

austin trying not to smile. cause that would be soooo uncool.

thanks for looking, and have a LUCKY day!
