punk princess skirt.

so a couple weeks ago i made katie this outfit.....and although i still think it is cute, after some consideration, i decided it looked a little too much like pajamas. (the fact that nathan came home and said, "oh katie, i like your new pajamas!" didn't help. LOL) i love the boutique bottoms with a dress (like here) but with just a t-shirt, i decided to go with a skirt. luckily, i had enough fabric left to make this skirt from Two Little Banshees. it was simple and quick and best of all, decidedly less "jammie" looking.

all you need is

Photobucket

i saw this shirt over at are we there yet? it is in her banner at the top of her page....but i couldn't find a tutorial anywhere with the template she used for the letters. i attempted to re-create something similar in Word to no avail. nothing was as cute as what she used. i could have e-mailed her and asked if she used a template....but that would have required waiting for a response and patience, which i have none of when i get an idea and start to run with it. and i already had the turquoise shirt laying there just waiting for a project, and when i saw HER shirt and got the idea to do a red and turquoise version (because i am obsessed with all things red and turquoise lately) i resorted to tracing the letters off of the computer screen and then enlarging them on the copier....what can i say? desperate times call for desperate measures, folks :) and i *heart* how it turned out.

whoooo loves you? dishtowel.

is there anything cuter than owls, ric-rac, and prairie points?! well, maybe a box of puppies or something....but this dishtowel turned out pretty dang cute. ya know the dollar bins at the front of tar-jay? i love finding treasures there! i found these cute waffle-weave towels there, 2 of them for $2.50. and they were cute, don't get me wrong....but with a little adornment here and there, they turned out UBER-ADORABLE! i used Pleasant Homes halloween dish towel tutorial again, i made some cute thanksgiving and christmas towels with it as well!

v-day banner.

needed a project to use up some scraps, and wanted something "valentines-y"....so this is what i came up with. i've seen these fabric banners everywhere online, including tutorials for them....but they are so super easy, i just winged it. i used a bowl to make the half-circles on the wrong side of my fabric (doubled-over) and then sewed right on the line. cut out close to the seam, turned right-side out, ironed, and then sandwiched them all inside some pink bias tape, and VOILA! instant valentine's banner. (okay, maybe not "instant". but certainly quick.)

twirly skirt.

i bought some fabric awhile back just cause....didn't really have a plan for it. (see: my fabric addiction.) anyhoos, as i was perusing some tutorials i came across this one again that i'd seen before and thought VOILA! that is perfect. and i knew what the fabric was for. because, can a girl ever have TOO MANY twirly skirts?! and i like there was a little twist on this one with the side tie. so, introducing my birdie twirlie skirt!

Fireproof.

sooo, i heard lots of good things about this movie, that every married couple should watch it, yadda yadda. we rented it tonight and watched it. it wasn't *quite* what i expected....i thought it would be a little more action, a little less cheesy. but i liked it all the same. and yes, kirk cameron may have helped a little :) i have always liked him, despite the naysayers. and there were several things that stuck with me....the main message, the whole "never leave your partner" idea. i also like the part where in the book the movie features, "The Love Dare", they are talking about parasites in your marriage:

“Watch out for parasites. A parasite is anything that latches on to you or your partner and sucks the life out of your marriage. They’re usually in the form of addictions, like gambling, drugs, or pornography. They promise pleasure but grow like a disease and consume more and more of your thoughts, time, and money. They steal away your loyalty and heart from those you love. Marriages rarely survive if parasites are present. If you love your spouse, you must destroy any addiction that has your heart. If you don’t, it will destroy you.”

it definitely made me stop and think about some of the addictions that i face; though to the outside world most of them would seem benign (my interwebz addiction, for one). it has definitely caused a rift btwn us on more than one occasion.

the part about not always following your heart spoke to me as well....especially for being in a society that seems to always be telling us to do just that.

"One of the most important things you should learn on your Love Dare journey is that you should not just follow your heart. You should lead it. You don’t let your feelings and emotions do the driving. You put them in the back seat and tell them where you’re going.

In your marriage relationship, you won’t always feel like loving. It is unrealistic for your heart to constantly thrill as the thought of spending every moment with your spouse. Nobody can maintain a burning desire for togetherness just one feelings alone. But it’s also difficult to love someone only out of obligation."

so, in conclusion :) if you are married, or thinking about getting married, or single, or a monk....i would recommend this movie. be prepared for a little bad acting and a few cheesy parts, but for a strong inspirational message.

Etsy shop update....

so i have been adding some stuff recently to my etsy shop....i know, i know....it's been empty *forever* but i've been on a creative streak lately so i've been stocking. i've listed a purse, a notebook cover, and a couple baby blankets, so go on over and check it out!

punk princess outfit :)

finished up this outfit the other day, and i love the way it turned out! the bottoms are the same boutique bottoms i usually make, and the shirt is just a black knit shirt from old navy that i appliqued (that i bought the other day for a dollar ninety-seven i might add!!).

all she wants for.....{valentine's day}? is her two front teeth.

katie lost her other top front tooth this morning! a few weeks later than i wanted her to LOL.....would've been cute for christmas pics.

in crafty news, i have been on an organizing kick. in addition to (trying!) to organize my sewing area, i made a couple drawstring bags for the kids. one for katie's cupcake-making stuff, and one for sam's mr. potato head (cause he has too many misc. body parts to store in his body like you're supposed to!) i used this super-easy tutorial and i love how they turned out! sam LOVES his bag and totes it around on his shoulder like a purse LOL....and can i just say how in love i am with that potato fabric?! i saw it at Pacific Fabrics and knew it's fate instantly :)

the pheobe bag.

i've been wanting to try some sort of bag for awhile now. i saw this free pattern and it was just what i'd been wanting. simple, not too big...and i had enough home decor weight fabric in my stash to give it a go. you could use regular quilting weight cotton it says but i'm lazy and didn't want to do the fusible interfacing on the whole thing so i just used a heavier fabric and skipped that part. the only parts i did put interfacing on was the pieces i attached the magnetic snap to. anyhoos, i think it turned out pretty good for my first try!
